5+ Founding Principal Attends Taikoo Place Beijing Launch
5+design Founding Principal, Mike Ellis, attended the Phase II launch and unveiling of Taikoo Place, the highly anticipated commercial project formerly known as INDIGO, located in Beijing's central Chaoyang district. Hosted by Hong Kong-based Swire Properties, this renaming marks the debut of Swire’s esteemed “Taikoo Place” brand in mainland China. Known for its exceptional planning approach, “Taikoo Place” is celebrated as one of Hong Kong’s premier commercial destinations and has evolved into a prestigious international business district.
Taikoo Place Beijing will include the existing INDIGO complex and its new Phase II expansion. Upon completion, the project’s total floor area will reach 860,000 square meters, featuring eight Grade-A office towers, a premium shopping center integrating indoor and outdoor spaces, and a new EAST Hotel with serviced apartments—further enhancing the standards of multifunctional commercial developments in Beijing.
Founding Principal Mike Ellis witnessed firsthand the latest developments planned by the Swire team, capturing what this moment signifies for the future of retail developments worldwide: “This development will be a stunning example of fully integrated, sustainably focused mixed-use when completed. 5+design is proud to have partnered with Swire Properties on the master planning and retail design of this remarkable project.”
The project’s new retail space and surrounding natural environment will integrate with the existing shopping center to create a distinctive "urban oasis."
Tim Blackburn, Chief Executive of Swire Properties, said: “We are delighted to introduce the Taikoo Place brand to mainland China. Taikoo Place Beijing is currently our largest single investment project in mainland China in terms of scale and capital. This renaming not only reflects our strong confidence in Taikoo Place Beijing but also reaffirms our long-term commitment to the Beijing market.”
