Diamond Hill is a multi-faceted mixed-use project in Shenyang, China. The project called for 74,000 square meters of retail space, 30,000 square meters of office and 114,000 square meters of residential, including live-work SOHO apartments, all built atop a fully integrated transit hub.
Diamond Hills' mountainous form and hollow center are the result of a series of technical challenges the project had to resolve during the design process. Using sun studies as a sculpting tool, the project satisfied rigorous local code ordinances for height, floor-to-area ratio and a requirement that neighboring residential buildings receive a minimum of two hours of sunshine on the shortest day of the year.
